Backstory
We all carry unspoken stories in our bodies. They resonate and reverberate through our deepest tissues. Sometimes we feel them through sharp pains, sometimes through unrelenting tension or unbearable restrictions. My job is to help translate the messages—to help determine where the cross-communication in the body
has occurred. I believe this is best achieved through engaged listening. Listening to what people have to say about what they’re feeling in their bodies and what they’re hoping to alleviate or achieve through different somatic therapies. Observant listening also occurs on a more subtle level through touch, through breath or through structural or emotional releases.
One of the most important things I've learned over the years is that patience is an essential component in creating meaningful, positive physiological transformations in our bodies. Through giving time and patience to our bodies they are better able to process change and maintain physiological and structural shifts. When the work is at the pace the body allows, the progressions come naturally. It's a symbiotic relationship between comforting the nervous system and realigning imbalances in the physical structure. It’s the integral element of
Restorative Body Therapy.
After working with so many diverse people, I can definitively say that while our bodies all have the same fundamental design, they are all so functionally different. Through each of the approaches that encompass Restorative Body Therapy, I trust my instincts and knowledge to direct me, and I trust the person I'm working with to communicate with me as we strive towards a common goal of attaining equilibrium in the body. Each one of our bodies instinctually knows how to heal, my role is simply to be an experienced guide helping facilitate the process.
The four approaches in Restorative Body Therapy were born out of the idea that there is no singular “best” way to address physiological and structural imbalances in our bodies. I am grateful to have my work informed and inspired by
Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Arielle Schwartz, Thomas Myers, Stanley Rosenberg, Ruthie Piper Hardee, Jim Morningstar, David Swenson, Bernie Clark and countless others who have generously shared expertise in their chosen fields.
There are times when our physical structure can be in need of outside support to help strengthen our body’s own natural healing abilities. This purpose guides each and every approach in Restorative Body Therapy.
